Spare a Thought

So, the World cup is upon us and no doubt the picking up the newspaper is annoying enough with every column inch full of football related gumph, has Davis B got a new hair cut, is Wayne R's fractured bone fit enough for him to dance in nightclubs and so on and so on and so on. I'm sure the football hating few are grumbling and complaining that there's no real news about and for the next month or so every programme on the tele will be a football match, and how eastenders has been re-scheduled to accomodate the soccer. Well they've just announced the schedule for the Wrold Cup games in New Zealand, and slightly unfortunately for those without sattelite, the rights have been awarded to SKY, with only the opening game, semi final and final being shown on terestrial TV. "Just go to pub" I hear you shout, well, that's all and well, but unfortunately this falls down on two fronts 1) there happens to be only 5 pubs in Auckland prepared to show the World Cup games(none close to us) and 2) they've gone and decided to put the games on in the middle of the night! kick off times of tantilisingly, 2.00, 4.00 and 6.00.
I here you say "well no one forced you to go to New Zealand" and of course you'd be right, but if any football hating people fancy doing a transfer foer the next month or so I'll certainly put in the request to the manger(flights have to be included). Just imagine a whole month without the world cup!

..You're also missing Big Brother..you see, there are always silver linings.
Did you hear the news that I got a VAST figure from the Tax Man, so I'm all geared up to see you both either in Aukland, or South Island, depending on what Vince has persuaded you to do. (Very Vague mention of a walking hol' in South Island was made; but I must stress it was very vague. At the mo' I think he's trying to go southwards from Darwin and get a spot of work? Will be be in NZ for his birthday?? Am a bit confused..)
Tamsin, who forgot her sodding password.

I'll swap!! I'm off to Fetlar in a bright orange VW Campervan this weekend so that should also be a football free place I hope. Glorious sunshine today but naturally not the same temperature as down south. Have a good weekend.

Ps: The RSS/XML feed is brilliant, I don't need to keep checking for when you post. Yahoo tells me automatically.

Pps: Any Brits watching Springwatch on the BBC? These guys can bring you the live version.

Sounds great to me! A whole month without the bloody World Cup? Yay!
Here in Oz, the coverage is - of course - huge, with Australia qualifying for the first time in bloody ages, the place has gone "soccer" mad (the word Football, of course, being reserved for the hallowed AFL) with adverts already celebrating world domination ("1966, England!, 1986, Argentina! 2006, Australia win the world cup, thanks to Hyundai!" - um. Sure.) and the football kit turning up in every shop window - drawing with Holland in the friendlies sort of helped too. I've never seen so many shell-shocked looking Dutch people...

As for the walking trip mentioned by Tamsin, I haven't had a chance to talk about that yet because I'm still in the middle of nowhere (Alice Springs, Nowhere, Australia to be accurate) - so stick that suggestion on the back burner until I get to Melbourne and have a new international phone card to play with... :)
